The course will deal with the major 19th century record sources: certificates issued by the General Register Office and the Census returns, which will enable you to research your ancestors back into the 18th century. These, together with parish registers, nonconformist records and probate documents will enable you to research back to the days of King Henry VIII. Surnames can point to even earlier origins. Scottish and Irish records will broaden the base of your research, and military records can be an essential resource.
