Following government guidelines, the IHGS offices in Canterbury are currently closed.
Our Distance Learning Courses, Zoom Tutorials and other services continue as normal. Please contact us admin@ihgs.ac.uk
Regular short courses are held either online or in Canterbury on a wide range of topics covering both genealogy and heraldry.
Zoom software is used for online courses, enabling anyone who cannot easily get to our base in Canterbury, to participate in our genealogical education from both the IHGS tutor team and outside speakers.
IHGS is easy to visit with two train stations only a 10 minute walk away. Canterbury is only a 55 minute train journey from St Pancras International Station. More details on how to find us and travelling to Canterbury are available in our information for visitors section.
Our courses are open to all with beginners' courses suitable for those who have just started to trace a family history or who wish to refresh their memories in the basic sources.
Courses covering several advanced topics are available for students who have basic knowledge of genealogy. Opportunities to gain practical experience are provided where possible and both online and original sources are discussed.
All the courses are taught by our experienced tutors and members of staff. For some courses, experts in particular areas of research will be invited to lecture.
